Images of overcrowded boats and long lines at processing centers dominate the public conscious related to modern human migration. Headlines quote the staggering statistics and the viewer forgets that while these facts and figures are true, they are not the entirety of the truth.
Forward relies upon these same difficult facts and startling images but refuses to dwell upon them. Instead, we focus on the individual migration experience — where people came from and where they are going. The meals and family that comprised the home they never wanted to leave and the everyday reality that makes up the home they now find themselves making.
Collaborating closely with individual refugees, we will tell the harrowing journey and difficult realities of what fell apart alongside the beauty and familiarity of the customs that still remain. As we work together to create and recreate these stories, we hope to make a worldwide historical phenomena personal.
