The Terra Nova mission was the most photographed Polar expedition of its era. Whilst we intend to recreate the true splendor of the Antarctic in a FULL-COLOUR experience, the art direction will be heavily informed by the many photographs recovered from the mission, ensuring authentic depiction of the equipment and materials used by Scott and his fellow explorers.
Their rudimentary goggles, heavy protection from the elements and faces blackened by seal-fat burners, will also limit the amount of rendering required to create realistic CG characters.
As many artifacts from the expedition (tents, tools, clothes, shoes etc.) are currently displayed at the Scott Polar Institute (Cambridge, UK), we plan to scan these original exhibits and model them accurately within the VR world.
